Oral History and official historiography of the Armenian Genocide
37 Oral History interviews from Beirut and Paris
This project explores the tension between oral history and historiography of the “events of 1915”. This term is used in the official language of the Turkish government to the describe the Armenian genocide (but not limiting it to only Armenians). The project is a contribution to an alternative history, the focus being on individual voices beyond hegemonic interpretations of the story. The aim is to look at and explore how these common memories are told and how they are passed from one generation to another, through oral practice, giving history their own interpretation and keeping it alive despite how official historians and politicians may have presented it.
